June 1, 2018 - Shortly after 8pm Friday night, Allamuchy firefighters were alerted for a reported structure fire on Oakcrest Drive. Chief Rick Lomonaco was first to arrive confirming an active deck fire with extension to the structure. The crew on first due engine 91-61 quickly stretched a line to the front door to attack the blaze that worked its way into the living room of the house. Hackettstown 78-63 arrived immediately behind 91-61 and began to extinguish the rear of the structure.
Interior crews worked their way up to the 2nd floor to find a smoke condition with no visible fire. As members began searching for the attic stairs, a smoke explosion/backdraft occurred in the attic, blowing out the B-side of the house and dropping the ceiling on the two firefighters. Both members were able to quickly gain their barring to exit the structure and reset themselves for what was then staged to be a long night.
The fire took over the attic of the structure and evacuation tones were sounded. Firefighters from several companies assisted in establishing a heavy water flow into the house. The fire was extinguished around 11pm, and all units were clear by 1am.
A big thank you goes out to all those who assisted us on the fire ground, the tankers for making endless loops to provide water, our fill stations, and those who helped with station coverage's.
